Hog Roast York Caters A Transatlantic Love Story!

Sparks flew when Yorkshire lass Robyn met all-American lad James, and it wasn’t long before the pair found themselves buried in wedding planning – the good kind of buried, the kind involving fabric swatches and Pinterest boards at 1am. Robyn wanted the day to feel unmistakably Yorkshire, so she landed on Skipbridge Farm, tucked away in the countryside with tipi tents and enough space outdoors for 120 guests to properly spread out and let their hair down.

Getting the setting right was only half the job, though and Robyn knew it. With a family full of self-confessed foodies, each with big appetites, the menu had to hold its own, so she did her homework and soon landed on Yorkshire’s finest: Hog Roast York.

We were thrilled to get involved and help her find a menu that actually worked for everyone. Inclusive dining’s something we care about a lot at Hog Roast York, so when Robyn mentioned nut allergies, gluten intolerances, plus a mix of vegetarian and vegan guests, we didn’t miss a beat. We reassured her straight away that this was very much our territory, and promised a spread everyone could genuinely enjoy – no exceptions.

The hog roast took pride of place, as it often does with us, joined by sage and onion stuffing that we’d cooked in the pig’s juices for extra flavour, homemade applesauce, crispy pork scratchings and a stack of rolls and wraps waiting for guests to build something ridiculously tasty. People were drawn over before they’d even found their seats, lured in by that unmistakable smell drifting across the field. And for anyone wanting a bit of variety, or simply a lot of everything, we’d also got juicy chicken thighs turning on the grill and thick, properly seasoned butcher’s sausages sizzling away beside them.

Grilled vegetable kebabs and BBQ-pulled jackfruit sliders gave the vegetarians and vegans two genuinely good options rather than the usual afterthought, and fresh salads, creamy coleslaw and a mix of sweet potato and traditional fries meant every plate ended up looking a little different depending on what people fancied. We rounded it all off with a proper condiments table, extra mayo included, because Robyn had been very clear that was non-negotiable.

Robyn and James couldn’t have been happier with how it all turned out. Hog Roast York had kept our promise of feeding everyone exactly as much as they wanted, and James’s family, having flown in from the States, were completely won over by a proper dose of Yorkshire hospitality.
