There’s something truly special about a countryside wedding, and this one at Swallows Retreat was no exception. With 150 guests, a warm summer breeze, and a beautifully rustic theme complete with straw bales and even a tractor and trailer as part of the décor, it was a day full of charm, laughter, and great food.
The celebration began with canapés served at 3pm as guests arrived and settled into the relaxed, rural setting. The straw bales doubled as seating and decor, creating a laid-back vibe that fit perfectly with the couple’s vision. The addition of the tractor and trailer was a real talking point — a playful nod to the couple’s love of the countryside and a great backdrop for photos.
As the afternoon rolled into evening, we prepared a full Southern Slow Roast menu for the 6pm service. The smell of BBQ filled the air and set the tone for a hearty, flavourful feast. Guests tucked into BBQ pork butt, tender beef brisket, and minted lamb, alongside juicy grilled skewers. Sides included creamy mac and cheese, fresh coleslaw, and a generous mix of sweet potato and traditional fries.
We’ve catered many weddings over the years, but this one stood out not just for its setting, but for the genuine warmth of the couple and their guests. It was a true pleasure to bring our Hog Roast Brough experience to such a memorable occasion.
